The short answer is that you don't need one and, most likely, can't have one.

First of all, you should have specified the exact phone model. Very few Sony Ericsson models run the Symbian operating system - most of them use proprietary operating systems, for which neither viruses, nor anti-virus programs exist (or are possible).

But even those phones that run the Symbian OS use the UIQ flavor of it. Mobile phone viruses threaten seriously only the phones running the Symbian S60 R2 operating system. Only 3 viruses exist for Symbian UIQ and none of them has any chances of surviving in the wild. So, buying an anti-virus program for a Sony Ericsson phone, even in the rare cases when it is possible, is a waste of money.

Nothing is that good, when it is free to download, but almost every office supply store has norton antivirus 2006 that comes out "FREE" after rebates. Its not really free because you pay the tax on it and then for the stamps to send in the rebates, but it is still pretty good deal. Only comes out to $3 or less and it will typically take 2 months to get your money back, but just make copies of everything you sent in. It will cost you more in gas to get to the store. Good luck

Ignore the other answer - while AVG is indeed free for personal use, there is no version of it for mobile phones.

First of all, you should have specified your phone model. Unless it runs Symbian, Windows Mobile or PalmOS operating systems, you don't need (and can't have) an anti-virus program for it - since there are neither viruses, nor anti-virus programs for the phones that use proprietary operating systems. In fact, unless your phone uses Symbian S60 R2, you don't really need an anti-virus program for it; the probability of it becoming infected is disappearingly small.

Now, if your phone *does* run Symbian S60 R2, you definitely need an anti-virus program for it - there are hundreds of viruses and Trojan horses for this environment. Unfortunately, none of the available general-purpose anti-virus programs for it is free.

There are some free utilities for removing the most widespread virus families for this environment (Cabir and CommWarrior) - but the full-blown anti-virus products cost money.

One alternative is to download an evaluation version and use it until it expires. Or, if you don't insist too much on quality (you do get what you pay for), you can try Calvin Stinger - it's free. Again, remember, this is for Symbian S60 R2 phones only - which yours might not be, but we have no way of knowing, since you didn't tell us your phone model.

If you're looking for something free then AVG would be good. I use it on all the laptops and PC's in my house and theres never been a problem with it.

Recently i bought a new laptop and it comes with McAfee Security Center which i must say is really good. It doesn't bog down your computer like Norton and just sits quietly in the background. And im running this on a Celeron laptop which aint the fastest thing out there.
