Ignore the other answer - while AVG is indeed free for personal use, there is no version of it for mobile phones.

First of all, you should have specified your phone model. Unless it runs Symbian, Windows Mobile or PalmOS operating systems, you don't need (and can't have) an anti-virus program for it - since there are neither viruses, nor anti-virus programs for the phones that use proprietary operating systems. In fact, unless your phone uses Symbian S60 R2, you don't really need an anti-virus program for it; the probability of it becoming infected is disappearingly small.

Now, if your phone *does* run Symbian S60 R2, you definitely need an anti-virus program for it - there are hundreds of viruses and Trojan horses for this environment. Unfortunately, none of the available general-purpose anti-virus programs for it is free.

There are some free utilities for removing the most widespread virus families for this environment (Cabir and CommWarrior) - but the full-blown anti-virus products cost money.

One alternative is to download an evaluation version and use it until it expires. Or, if you don't insist too much on quality (you do get what you pay for), you can try Calvin Stinger - it's free. Again, remember, this is for Symbian S60 R2 phones only - which yours might not be, but we have no way of knowing, since you didn't tell us your phone model.
