my computer is acting wierd like i have had 50 internet explorer pages pop up asll of sudden and dont stop popping up till they are up to atleast 46. and like sometimes it just jams like the window title turns gray for a few secs and comes back to normal..how do you know if you have a hacker or something like that?

I use Avast and have no problems. Avast and AVG are coming into favor lately. They both work very well, are much easier on your system (not much draw of system resources), and best of all, they are free.

I'd recommend you download SpyBot, and run a system sweep with it. SpyBot is a spyware detection tool, and is also free. Just download it, run an update on it to verify you have all of the current detection rules, and run a scan. Simple as that. I run a system scan about once a week, and have no problems as a result.

Oh. I got that internet thing once. Run a virus scan and your anti-virus program should find it. If you're still concerned, remember that you can have multiple anti-virus/anti-adware programs on your computer at once without any negative consequences, so that's an option as well.
Two things need to be done

1 install the firefox and lilled them silently

2. Install an updated Norton anivirus and Lavasoft Ad-aware to get rid of any malware and viruses.

You have unused registry entries. You should probably download a registry cleanup tool. I use HS Clean disk Pro. Just type these words into your address bar or search box; "Registry Cleaner" Then look for a free trial version. You could type "HS Clean disk Pro" into the same search box. When I got my copy they were offering a 30 day free trial.

After running a registry cleanup tool you should search your hard drive for files related to the Norton program. (i.e. Symantec) ISince it isn't properly installed in the first place it wont hurt anything to delete the files related to an old program. You WILL NOT be able to reinstall Norton when a partial or damaged version remains on your hard drive.

I had this happen to me once with an old version of Norton prior to getting my copy of HS Clean Disk Pro. It wouldn't let me remove it because it wasn't all there. And it wouldn't let me reinstall it because it hadn't been removed. I had to reinstall my operating system. This might be your only option.

I switched my computer on this morning and the following occured. Norton system icon started flashing red, warning that the system was corrupt and needs immediate attention. The original error message was probably a trojan, and you downloaded a 'tool' that has trashed your system.

It is still on your machine and preventing you from re-installing Norton. I'm not sure if you'll be able to recover anything safely from this; the easiest route will be a reformat, shred the hard drive, and reinstall Windows from scratch. If you can download and install any other security software then try running it in Safe Mode.And in future, never click on one of these links. No security doftware can work if you switch it off, disable it or uninstall it.

All have weaknesses. AVG = free though.
When I first purchased my PC a year ago it came with Norton already installed, but it was only for a trial period of time and Norton is excellent, but when I signed on with my ISP, I got McAfee with it free of charge and now I think McAfee is better than Norton, but it all depends on the individual person I guess. Try them all if you can and decide for yourself what's best.
Norton and McAfee are two big names and I think they are very good.

However, personally I use Panda. It is strong. You can download a 1 month trial version for free from their site www.pandasoftware.com.

I am amazed that your PC, still is working. Your system will have serious conflict with more then one antivirus program. You can also only have one firewall. If it is Microsoft firewall I recommend that you remove as it is not a true firewall. Microsoft firewall will only protect you from rogue incoming packets, but no protection for your personal data from leaving your PC, without your permission.

You can run four or five antispyware with no conflict. I run five antispyware, being all you will need is the resources. (RAM).

If the ones you want to remove from add/remove and they are still parts of the files in your system here is what you have to do.

Go to your tray, start, run and type in: c://program files, click on browse, click on program files and look to see if the name of the file is there. Delete if possible. If the file says being used by another file, reboot and go back and delete. Usually this will work.

Now go to start search and type in (you will have to type in each file name seperate), because your system will only search for one file at a time. When the system searches for the related file names, delete from top to bottom all related files. If any say being used, or write protected, reboot and go back and perform the same procedure.

as for not deleting.... you can always go manual.

If you know where the file is, delete it. It won't go away though. To delete it, cut it and paste to your desktop. Then cut and paste into the recycle bin and empty recycle bin. it will appear to be gone. but it is still there. make a file with same name and extension as the old file. then copy and paste to desktop, this will erase the malicious data left by the virus. This may work... it may not. This did work for me though. I had some w7.bloohound virus or something (that is what norton called it.) and it could not be deleted by norton antivirus. So i killed it myself. that is the second virus that I got rid of by myself. And my computer has been fine for over 6 months now. so hopefully it will work for you.

I dont use any antivirus because I think.. Like Norton? Is a big ripoff, whenever I get malware or a virus that highjacks the browser or takes over your computer I just delete everything and reinstall windows. It makes the computer like brand new. Of course though make sure you burn whatever you want to save onto a cd before you delete, its fun to delete everything too, windows wont let you delete everything cause it needs some things to keep running.

I currently use Ad-Aware SE Professional and Norton Internet Security 2006. They both help an aweful lot but with the current sophistication in adware/spyware it is very difficult to maintain a clean computer. Ive gotten my share of wares and viruses that shut down Anti Virus programs and wreak havoc. Best bet is to maintain a healthy backup of your system, often.

How old is your PC? If it is quite old, leave it. If it is post 2005, you may have a faulty product. If you don't want norton (which isn't as bad as people say), try AVG. You can get it free or pay for it if you are very security-conscious. It does the job and comes very close to norton.

It is normal that AVG shows that files, the MBR or Boot record to have changed. These are done during normal maintainance, when you or windows updates files or have had to correct errors on the drive. The only time that you should worry is if they also show as infected.

To get AVG to quit showing them as changed, open the AVG Test Center, click the F3 key on your keyboard and tell it to accept the changes. If it still shows something as changed after this.. delete the file named AVG7QT.DAT in C:\ and AVG will rebuild it the next time it is run.

It's possible. Go to start, programs and locate your av program. Open it and make sure it's up and running.
If you restarted and it didn't show up, then that may be a problem. If you have your computer running and it goes away, it is possible that explorer crashed and didn't detect the programs to put into the taskbar when it restarted itself, and the programs don't actively look to make sure that they are part of the explorer taskbar.

I have used AVG Anti Virus, Zone Alarm Firewall, Spy-bot Search and Destroy and Ad Aware both spyware killers for years. They are all free for personal use and I have had no trouble with Viruses Trojans etc. AVG does not slow the system down as much as some other products and Zone Alarm allows a lot of personal configuration unlike the Windows Firewall. anti virus software is okay if old virii attack your pc but if they're new, chances are they won't be detected by the anti virus software.

I find AVG to be okay.

One final note, use RESTORE to roll back your pc after healing virus to completely get rid of virus.

I believe this claim in true. I bought a brand new system a year ago. from Dell. It came pre-installed with an eighteen month subsription of the Norton '05 Security Suite with Live Updates. I was a very new computer user at the time (I have learned a great deal since) and so purchased a Help Desk from Dell. They call it Dell on Call now and is nothign like what it was when I bought my contract.

You don't need to put anything else on it as this will just slow it down each one has to update and could cause programs to conflict with each other and crash the computer and a good anti virus program should everything you need. your system already has a virus which prevented it from loading. you should the following

1) start the p.c. in safe mode

2) Load an antivirus like avgfree

3) Scan the system

4) load trojan remover ( u can get it here(www.pcgugru.co.nr)

You will also get "live updates" of virus definitions from time to time. I am currently using Norton Internet Security.

It is not that expensive, if there is a sale, you can buy Norton AV at about $30 or Norton IS at about $45. After the first copy, there is normally a coupon offer where you return your old copy of Norton for a rebate. So it will only costs about maybe $15. I buy a new version every 2 years or so.

You have to click on the icon and choose the preferences to scan. I know a guy who runs both at the same time, lol, which creates some funny conflicts but he likes it that way because each one catches some things the other doesn't. I use Avast and Superantispyware when avast isn't removing something.
It works by running in memory and checking everything that comes into your computer. No virus checker is compeltely safe though. Windows is inherelently insecure which is why most web companies choose to use other opertaing sytems.

All I can say about it right now is that it goes to check for updates everyday and download at least 10Mb a month...

Sophos is also the only one ready for Windows Vista.

it does it a lot.. it probably means "changed" since install..

e.g. if service pack 2 was installed etc..

When it scans, it records a checksum for each file in the system folder. Now between scans, these two files have been modified since the last scan. That isn't always a problem, as Windows update may have ran and changed these files, or you may have installed software that may included a different version too.

The reason it flags this, is because virii can be planted within regular system files, so this is just bringing it to your attention. The best thing to do is do a google search on the file names in question as many sites will flag up possible problems. or even if the files are bogus.

I scan with it every day, and lately the first item that it catches is "Change" under shell32. After that it usually doesn't catch anything else. I don't know this change is, whether it's good or bad, or what to do about it. When I get the report that appears at the end of the scan, it doesn't say anything about the change. And I still keep getting a lot of pop-ups from oinadserver, and the AVG doesn't seem to know that the adware is there. Does all this have to do with this "change"? What should I do to fix this change and get rid of all this adware once and for all?

No, there is a free version that is truly free. They are after the recognition with businesses. There isn't much money in selling to home users for the most part.

Instead of an anti-virus program you should look at Returnil or DeepFreeze. They are a bit of a pain as if you use them wrong, you will lose all of your work, but very few viruses can install either. Better but more blunt protection than all other methods.
