How do you stop Sophos Anti-virus constantly trying to install updates on a machine? It's worse

Every 20 mins or so up pops a windows installer and tells me it is going to install an auto update, uusally whilst I am in the middle of some delicate task. It conks out halfway through the procedure and I have to clear it off, usually by way of the Task Manger. Sophos is being run over a network (but they don't know how to sort it out) and the operating system is XP professional, if that makes any difference. Many thanks.

LOL that's pretty funny; I don't use Sophos but I am positive that there are settings/configuration/options where you can choose to disable live update or at least choose a longer period of time rather than every 20 minutes; try to go through the options and settings of the software to see if you can change the options on live updates.

If you are on a corporate platform, there may be little you can do. Perhaps the IT department of your company should look at only distributing updated antivirus definitions once daily (eg: when people first log on in the morning).

There could be another issue however. If you are the only person experiencing this issue on the network, it may be that there is a corruption problem with the Windows Installer or with the Sophos on your PC and what is happening is that the same updates are trying to load over and over. Again, your IT department will have to sort it out.
