use an antivirus which is also good at catching spyware then

use antispywares only to scan on weekly basis (Not real time)

if u r ready to pay then go for

1) kaspersky or

2) ESET NOD32

if u r opting for free then best is

Antivir form avira (Works scilently) only thing u have to bear is avira advertise window during update but that is a less cost considering the best and free utility

I would highly recommend both...

Advantages: Spyware and Viruses are actually different... some antivirus software can catch some spyware, and some spyware can catch some viruses, but with both you have it all covered.
