As a personal opinion on the effectiveness of AOL's free software, I would not trust my personal or corporate computers to the low-level software solution that AOL has provided us for free. Even though AOL is a large based company that has the resources and capability to provide the consumers with a high level of support, this has not be the case in the past 10 years. To also make matters worse, AOL is currently labeled under investigation as of August 2006 for it's AOL 9.0 software and the possibility that it installs additional unwanted rogue software without disclosure. Basically, spyware companies are labeling it spyware because of its nature to alter browser settings and its current practices. There are better anti-virus software solutions available that are open-source and free to the public. I recommend AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition.

the problem with the aol anti virus is it will interfer with any other anti virus program you may have running. I would recommend paying the 30 bucks and getting bit defender and have some protection that will really protect you

AOL is a safe antivirus as long it is updated properly.
Now keep in mind that an antivirus is not perfect. What Norton2007 can't catch AVG will catch it and what AVG can't catch the Cleaner 4.1 will. So if you feel that your PC acts funny and the speed has reduces will a lot of crashes by no mean scan your PC with at least AOL antivirus and the free AVG.
Good luck,
Joe.
