I previously, yesterday, asked an inprecise question-how to run A-V without having to open the E-Mail---the A-V does,OR DOES NOT, have the ability to detect virusees, worms, T-horses WITHIN ATTACHED CLICK ON LINKS WITHIN THE RECEIVED E-MAIL ???
How can I run anti-virus(SPECIFICALLY UPON LINKS ATTACHED WITHIN)the e-mail without 1st having to click openE?adware
Anti virus programs typically look for viruses in attachments on email. That means that if the email has a file attached to it, it will be checked for viruses. If the email does not have an attachment, and the sender is not blacklisted, but the email contains a link to a webpage with a virus - if you click that link, you're potentially infected. Most antivirus programs are good enough that they catch the webpage (once you click it) and isolate the virus.
If you're going to click links in emails from persons that you don't know, you need to set up a user account that does not have administrative rights to the computer. Once you do that, the website won't have the rights to change most files on your computer. That, along with your virus protection software, is typically adequate.

programs like AVG Anti-virus will check all of your incoming mail for viruses, worms, trojans, etc. (including attachments) before you open them, and put a label on the mail certifying them safe.
Just to be on the safe side though, you shouldn't open any attachments unless you know where they come from and they're safe.
