firstly anti virus,there are 2 very good free anti-virus packages ,avast is a excellent free program and can be downloaded from http://www.avast.com/eng/avast_4_home.ht... has a 60 day trial period but you can register free anytime before then
i know avast is good cause my wife uses it and she is very choosy on what software she uses,she ecspecially likes the downloadable skins
avg free is another good program and is avalible from http://free.grisoft.com/doc/1,this has a very fsat scanner ,around 5 min for a 10gb scan,it also has real time scanning and browser scanning
there are more anti-spy programs on the market every day but you have to be careful on which ones you pick
spy-bot is the best free anti-spy you can get and is avalible from http://www.safer-networking.org/,it combines a spyware scanner plus a imunize feature which blocks all known spyware ,thus stopping any installing them on your system
you must update spybot every time you use it,as it dosent auto-update,and also imunize it after every update,to block the updated sites
combining spybot with adaware ,avalible from http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaw... ,will give you all round protection from spy and ad ware,and with either avg or avast(i would go for avast),you should be safe to surf and not worry about picking up any nasty infection of the internet
