Why does loading Norton anti-virus stop me from accessing the Internet?

Windows XP; broadband.

No, but it scans it for you...based on your system abilities it may make it take a long time to load.

If you just installed it, disable or uni-stall the old protection program, problem may be that they are dueling for control of security and causing the inability to use the Internet.

Ditch Norton for good it's been nothing but trouble for just about anyone who downloads it. Go to AVG or Windows Defender. Also try AVG Anti-Spyware. It works wonders.
i keep telling peeps "norton's" a piece of sh't get rid, a.s.a.p.

or youre gonna get a lot of probs, avg its free, n better.
Norton AntiVirus wont stop you. However, Norton Internet Security may stop you if not appropriately configured. Do you have Norton Internet Security installed? Or maybe other firewall software?
I think it is because of the firewall. Check Norton's firewall settings and see if internet explorer is allowed to access internet.
Get rid of Norton and use AVG anti virus free edition
