AVG. Norton not good. Trust me.
All have weaknesses. AVG = free though.
When I first purchased my PC a year ago it came with Norton already installed, but it was only for a trial period of time and Norton is excellent, but when I signed on with my ISP, I got McAfee with it free of charge and now I think McAfee is better than Norton, but it all depends on the individual person I guess. Try them all if you can and decide for yourself what's best.
Norton and McAfee are two big names and I think they are very good.

However, personally I use Panda. It is strong. You can download a 1 month trial version for free from their site www.pandasoftware.com.
I used Norton first, but still caught some virus, so I use McAffee too. Someone told me that every program has their advantages and won't cover all, so sometimes we need to combine them.
there are some very good AV programs, but you will not go far wrong with AVG from free to pro its 1 of the best.
I'm guessing Northon, that's the anti-virus that yahoo is using.

A best antivirus program cannot be tell..nothing is perfect..i had installed norton in my system..recently when my system was attacked by a virus..the first thing it did was removing the norton files..now i cant reinstall or repair my norton as it showing some error, utill i format the hard disk..some viruses detected by norton may not be detected by other..so what you can do is to install free copies of norton or avg or any other which is somewhat good..update it through internet..if your system is affected by a virus which cant be healed then got to internet and search, for sure you will get the appropriate solution to remove the virus manullay..
