Help with norton anti virus live updates?

i just noticed that there was an urgent attnetion problem on my norton desktop and it turns out i needed to download updates. when i finally did and completed all the updates and downloads, the urgent attention "Red X" still appears and says i still need to check for updates. when i retried again, it said i had all the updates available. please help, thanks

First of all, Norton totally sucks. I found this out after 2 years of the same exact problems you're having. I had to call in a computer guy who was able to take it off ( the red X)only because I bought the 2007 version tho my other subscription hadn't expired yet. He told me that Norton has this continual problem and once you get it, it is a pain to fix. So anyway, now I have the *%26#$%$^%^ red X again for whatever reason, and I cannot get updates (again) with the 2007 version. So I asked around for the next best thing and was told the BEST is Trend Micro Antivirus. No problems with the program or updates and it is thorough. You probably are updated and it just will not change to green. Sorry, but I am giving up on Norton, I stuck it out with them since I had my first computer, and didn't get this problem or any like it till 2005.
