There are several free antiviruses available online. The main three would probably be Avast, AVG, and Antivir. From my experience working on pcs for several years, I suggest that you choose Antivir over the others as it has a very high detection rate and has scheduled scans and daily updates. As with any free antivirus I HIGHLY recommend that you also use a dedicated malware/spyware scanner to compliment your antivirus protection. Ones that I highly recommend are Spyware Doctor Starter Edition, AVG Antispyware, SuperAntispyware,and Spybot Search %26 Destroy. All of these are free and I suggest you pick 2 of them. Spyware Doctor has the highest detection rate and I recommend this above all of the others, but the choice is yours. You can get all the products I have named on www.download.com completely free. Just update and scan your pc regularly with the antivirus and the antispyware programs and you will be protected just as well as with any paid for solution. Remember to only use ONE antivirus program at a time.
